On-The-Spot Pumpkin Carving Contest!

We’ve been doing these games recently in our Middle School Ministry called On-The-Spot Showdowns and our students LOVE them.

Here’s the idea.

When we begin our program, we introduce that day’s Showdown and choose two students that want to battle it out (usually a guy and a girl). We give them each a pumpkin (already hollowed out and seeded) and 15 minutes to prepare.

After 15 minutes, we called them back and watched them carve their pumpkins live in front of our group. We chose the winners by letting the crowd cheer for their favorite.

And of course we needed a cool prize, so Elle carved a pumpkin with our logo in it.

If you’re looking to do your own On-the-Spot Pumpkin-Carving Showdown, here’s what you’ll need for each battle

  • 2 pumpkins, hollowed out and seeded
  • 2 middle-schooler-friendly pumpkin-carving kits
  • 1 sweet prize

We’ve done a bunch of other On-the-Spot Showdowns, too. Like On-the-Spot Dance Crew, Stand Up Comedian, Battle Rap, and Artist.

If you want to check out more On-the-Spot Showdowns, and other games we play, go to funninja.org and explore our youth group game archive!

Awesome! What did your middle-school-friendly pumpkin-carving-kit consist of?

    • Hey Drew!

It was 97 cents and consisted of a carving knife and a scoop. The kids didn’t need the scoop since we already cleaned out the pumpkins, and the knife was really safe and surprisingly effective in cutting the pumpkin. I had my doubts about it, but once I tried cutting with it, I was very impressed.
